Everything You Need To Know About Home Staging

Date:

If you are thinking about putting your home on the market any time soon, it's a good idea to start thinking about how you will stage your home.  According to Forbes, homes that are staged typically sell faster and for 17% more than homes that are not staged. Consider staging your home or reaching out to your real estate agent for advice.  For now, here are some tips and tricks to help get you started!

Deep Clean Your Home

As if you couldn’t guess that this would be the first tip on the list! Whether you plan to go professional or not, a deep clean of your home should be the first thing on your for-sale to-do list. It’s an instant appeal that you can uncover for free.  Check out our latest blog post on deep cleaning tips and tricks!

Make Sure You Have Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is another term often used when talking about real estate, because the first thing a buyer sees about your home is what’s out front! This is your first opportunity to impress prospective buyers, so you’ve got to make the most of it. When your home is for sale, routinely mow the lawn and trim the weeds. Keep sidewalks swept and make the entire walk to the front door an eye-pleasing experience by adding a crisp new welcome mat and some seasonal plants or flowers. Remember, it may take a buyer’s agent a few moments to get your front door open for prospective buyers. Make sure they like what they see before they even come inside.

Make The Most of Your Storage

When you’re ready to sell your home, cleaning out your closets may not be the task that you’re most looking forward to, but it actually could help your home to sell faster. Prospective buyers LOVE to see storage space… and lots of it! So, the cleaner your space is, the better! Plus, if you clean out your closets before you begin packing, you’ll only make the task easier on yourself when it actually is time to move out. This clean-up task includes bathroom cabinets and drawers and kitchen pantries too!  Check out our most recent blog on organization, to help your task go a little smoother!

Depersonalize Your Home

We love accent walls, but when your home is on the market, it’s better to stick with classic neutrals. Give your walls a fresh coat of paint in rich mid-tone neutrals, such as Sage or Pale Yellow– these colors will give your home a sophisticated look without creating the stark, boring vibe that white walls often do.

In addition to neutralizing the walls, you may also want to neutralize the décor. An ultra-girly living room – complete with a pink couch and matching throw pillows – may be your favorite room in the house, but it could easily deter a male buyer. The same goes for rooms dedicated to your favorite sports teams or vibrant murals painted on the walls of children’s rooms.

Though you may have heard that home staging can be an expensive way to make your home sell faster, some easy changes can go a long way in attracting the right buyer to your home. While you have some extra time on your hands, find out what these few small, inexpensive changes can do for you!  You might even want to consider asking your real estate agent for some advice.  Some agents will offer home staging for free or a discounted price!
